Gift Aid
Increase your donations by 28% at no extra cost to you
Are you a UK taxpayer? If so, then you can use Gift Aid on your donation. This enables the UK-based charities to reclaim from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) the tax you've paid on your donation - currently 25p for every £1 donated - at no extra cost to you.
HMRC will also pay a supplement of an additional 3p for every £1 which means the UK charities will receive a total of 28p for every £1 you donate.
So if you donate £5 they can reclaim £1.25 and HMRC will give 16p making your donation worth £6.41.
All you need to do is make a Gift Aid Declaration when you make your donation which is included on the downloadable donation form.
If you pay tax at the higher rate, you too can benefit from tax relief via your Self Assessment tax return. You can reclaim the difference between the basic rate (currently 20%) and higher rate (currently 40%) tax.
For example, if you give £5 we can reclaim £1.25 and HMRC will give 16p. You can reclaim £1.25 so your £5 donation has only cost you £3.75 but is worth £6.41 to the UK charities.
