The Cabrera Channel
A unique opportunity to do a solo Cabrera Channel swim from the protected marine reserve, located 20km off the southern tip of Mallorca. 
Perfect preparation for an English Channel swim, or an awesome challenge in its own right.
What’s included:
Permissions and permits

We will organise all the relevant permissions and permits with the Mallorcan authorities so that you can concentrate on the fun part, the swimming.

Pilot boat and support crew

We will organise the necessary safety vessels and support crew to safely pilot you across this beautiful 20km stretch of water from Cabrera to Mallorca.

Three-day window 

In order to give you the best chance of getting off, we allocate you a three-day window for your solo crossing and the two non-crossing days give you the opportunity to swim the coastline surrounding Colonia Sant Jordi and/or a session at the world-renowned 50-metre BEST Centre pool.

Observer and drone (optional)

If you would like your swim to be independently ratified we can organise for an observer and we can also arrange for stunning drone photography of your crossing (additional cost).

Flights

A wide range of budget airlines connect Palma with airports throughout Europe. For flights from outside Europe, there are plentiful connections in Madrid, Barcelona and London Gatwick.

Accommodation

Various accommodation options available to suit all tastes and budgets from self-catering apartments and budget hotels to five-star resort hotels and villas.

Transfers

Colonia Sant Jordi is a 45-minute drive from Palma airport, and there are a number of transfer options including transfer buses, taxis and rental cars.

Meals

A diverse range of restaurants and cafes are on offer in Colonia Sant Jordi to meet all tastes whether you fancy a traditional paella on the beach, authentic Italian pizza or a tasty curry.

Real-time sea and land temperature

 Swim Tracker

Our YellowBrick satellite tracker will be activated for your Cabrera Channel swim so that your family and friends back home can follow your progress during your crossing. The tracker updates its position data every ten minutes via satellite so it doesn’t rely on a mobile signal. Be warned, it can become addictive viewing! (Note the map view will update to show the live information as soon as the tracker is activated at the start of the swim)

FAQs

+ What experience do I need to sign up for a Cabrera Channel swim?

The Cabrera Channel is 20km so you need to be confident swimming in open water for multiple hours. We recommend that you do at least 2 x 3-hour sea swims over two days to prepare for this significant open water swimming challenge.

+ What is the water temperature? Can I wear a wetsuit?

The water temperature in the Cabrera Channel ranges from around 15-16 degrees Celsius in early May to 25-26 degrees Celsius in September and October. Check the real-time sea temperature data on our location page.

+ How far is it and how long will it take?

We do the classic crossing from the Port of Cabrera to the Port Beach in Colonia Sant Jordi, which is approximately 20km. Depending on your pace, it will take between 5-9 hours to complete the crossing.
