TRE & nervous system regulation
TRE is an accessible practice designed to support the body in releasing deep physical and emotional tension. Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises work with the body’s natural neurogenic tremor mechanism, an innate response that helps regulate the nervous system and restore a sense of balance and safety.
For me, this work is closely connected to the sea. Time in open water has always been where I feel most regulated, present and connected to something larger than myself. The rhythms of the ocean mirror the intelligence of the nervous system, flow and pulsation, expansion and contraction, activation and stillness. TRE offers a way to access that same natural recalibration from within the body on dry land.
This self-paced practice is not about forcing change but allowing the body to release what it needs to in its own time, in its own way. It can support the release of stress, tension and trauma, and support recovery from overwhelm
What is TRE?
TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) was developed by Dr David Berceli and is based on the understanding that the body has a natural capacity to discharge stress through involuntary shaking or tremoring.
A series of simple exercises gently activates this tremor mechanism, allowing the body to release patterns of muscular tension held in the nervous system. Once activated, the tremor process can be self-regulating and deeply restorative.
TRE sessions with Anna are:
Body-based and experiential
Gentle and self-paced
Suitable for beginners or those with previous experience of TRE
Focused on nervous system regulation rather than analysis or re-telling of experiences
There is no need to “get it right” and no expectation of a particular outcome. Each person’s experience is unique.
Who is TRE for?
Anna offers sessions for people aged 18+ and TRE can be helpful for:
People experiencing stress, overwhelm or burnout
Those wanting a body-based approach to regulation
People curious about nervous system work
Athletes, high performers and endurance sportspeople
Those recovering from chronic tension patterns or life stress
What will happen in a session?
Sessions last approximately 75 minutes, either online or in person, and include:
Brief check-in and/or introduction to TRE
Guided exercises to activate tremor response
Time in tremoring process (self-led, supported)
Integration and grounding
Optional reflection and closing

Anna Wardley
I am a TRE provider, endurance swimmer and open water coach, with a long-standing connection to the sea both a training ground and a place of regulation, reflection and transformation.
My work is rooted in the connection between nervous system balance, body awareness and immersion in natural environments, particularly the sea. Alongside TRE, my background in open water swimming and endurance sport has shaped my understanding of stress, recovery, resilience and the body’s incredible capacity to adapt and restore itself.
I bring a calm, warm and body-led approach to all sessions, creating space for people to explore their own experience safely and at their own pace.
Currently undertaking certification training in TRE with Alex Greene and Siv Jøssang Shields at Neurogenic Integration.
